Pupils get building in Deepings Lego competition

The Deepings School, Bourne Academy, Stanground Academy, Ken Stimpson Academy, Thomas Deacon Academy, Spalding Grammar all participated in the tournament on Saturday.

The Deepings School won the regional tournament and are preparing for the next phase of the competition.

The First Lego League is an annual event in which schools must complete three components of a challenge: the robot game, the project and the core values.

It is a global science and technology competition, with more than 250,000 young people taking part each year.

The winner of each regional tournament will go through to the UK and Ireland final on February 21 and could be in with a chance of competing at the FLL World Festival in the USA.

This year it is the Trash Trek challenge, and competing teams must build autonomous robots, gaining points for completing challenges on an 8ft x 4 ft area, researching solutions to the trash trek problem and demonstrating core values.

Emma Meins works at the organisation in Market Deeping and said: “This is the first time that we have held the event here, but it has been running for a few years.”
