Youngsters passionate about STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) are now able to come to the school in Park Crescent at an even earlier age.

Year 9 pupils will take part in a series of project-based challenges which are built around the principles of technical skills development, employability skills development and high quality time with employer sponsors (which include Anglian Water, Perkins Engines and Z-Tech).

Each of the challenges are led by a team of specialist teachers and technicians and include: engineering, product design and art, computer science, the built environment, geography and business studies.

Principal David Bisley said: “Expanding our age range to include Year 9 means we are able to offer our specialist curriculum to even more of Peterborough’s young engineers, architects and designers. It is fantastic that local young people passionate about STEM subjects are now able to come to our school at an even earlier age.”

MP for Peterborough Paul Bristow said: “I’m very proud that Peterborough has a school that allows students from a younger age to focus on STEM subjects. Peterborough is a working city and what this school is doing is preparing young people to make that next step, which is great.

“It’s wonderful to see so many girls passionate about STEM subjects and to listen to them talk so eloquently about their future plans. The university and the work being done here at the UTC can be part of a brilliant future for Peterborough.”
