The Diana Award was set up in honour of the Princess of Wales to bring about positive change for young people through mentoring and anti-bullying initiatives.

Since March 2019, Queen Katharine Academy has been promoting this and has student anti-bullying ambassadors who run campaigns to tackle bullying throughout the school year.

The academy received the ‘Community Action’ badge for its work reaching the wider school community by sharing tips to identify and support those experiencing bullying through the secondary school’s social media platforms, school newsletter and trust-wide magazine.

The academy also delivered training to all staff and held a positivity and kindness photo booth event.

Imogen Chaillet, aftercare coordinator at The Diana Award, said: “It seems like many of the activities demonstrated had a really positive impact on bringing anti-bullying work into the wider community and reaching all groups across the school with your message. We were impressed by your involvement in an external study on peer relationships, which should hopefully have a positive impact going forwards.”

Lynn Mayes, principal at Queen Katharine Academy, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have received the Community Action badge. Both our staff and students are passionate about raising awareness of bullying and dedicated to educating and encouraging all our students to be the best and kindest version of themselves.

Having received the Community Action and Wellbeing badges, the academy said it will now work towards earning the Diana Award’s ‘Respect’ and ‘Online Safety’ badges.
