Peterborough Masons hold Christmas party for children

The event was held at the Burghley Club in Peterborough and was attended by twenty-one children from New Ark. Transport was provided by Kings School Peterborough in their new minibus. Ten pupils from the Lower sixth at Kings helped organize and run games for the children and Father Christmas took time out from his busy schedule to give presents to all the children.

The Literacy Trust generously donated books and the children could pick a book to take home in addition to their presents from Santa.

Steve Kendrick from Schola Regia Lodge (Schola Regia is Latin for Kings School) said: ”We have been organizing this event for a number of years now and it continues to prove very popular with local children. We are extremely grateful for the support of Kings School and the use of their minibus. I believe that forty sixth formers volunteered to help with the party which I think speaks volumes for the character of the Kings pupils – we cannot thank them enough for their enthusiasm & commitment. We are also grateful to the Burghley Club for hosting the event for us again and for the Literacy Trust for their generous donation of books for the children.”

The National Literacy Trust has been working in communities in Peterborough for a decade to inspire a lifelong love of reading in local children. This work is made possible by partnerships with local schools, business leaders and people across the local community, all galvanised to tackle local literacy issues and change life stories.
