There were fantastic successes at Greater Peterborough UTC at both A level and GCSE

Students on the Level 3 programme study STEM specialist A Level, BTEC and AQA Technical qualifications alongside opportunities to engage with the school’s industry sponsors in a programme designed to prepare them for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

Some of the stand out performances from the Level 3 bespoke programme include Ben Wade who achieved Distinction* Distinction* Distinction in the BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering, A* in Physics and A in Maths. Ben is considering his options and will either join the Royal Marines Commandos or study Aeronautical Engineering at Loughborough University. Jodie Haynes achieved Distinction in Level 3 Constructing the Built Environment, grade A in Product Design and a grade C in Maths and will go on to study Property Development and Planning at Bristol University.

The school also celebrated the outstanding success of several Year 13 students who have achieved places on highly competitive apprenticeships: Daniel Asher, who is an Arkwright Engineering Scholar, achieved Distinction* Distinction* Distinction in the BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering, B in Physics and B in Maths and goes onto a degree level apprenticeship with the school’s sponsor Anglian Water studying for a BEng (Hons) at Nottingham Trent University. Elodie Woods achieved double Distinction* in Engineering and A in Product Design and is currently awaiting confirmation from two apprenticeship programmes. Devon Wesley achieved Distinction* AQA Technical Engineering, C in Geog, A EPQ, D in AS Physics and has secured an apprenticeship with one of the UTC’s main sponsors Z-Tech, with whom he completed a successful work placement in Year 12.

The school’s Foundation Sixth Form programme blends GCSEs and technical qualifications to create a basis for students to pursue further study at GPUTC. Notable students in this year’s select cohort include Michael Murphy, Joao Ramos, Atten Ryan-Richardson and Tyler Banks who all achieved grades 5 and above in Maths and Science GCSEs and Level 2 Pass in C&G Technical Award in Engineering and who now go on to their first choice destinations.

This year’s Year 11 students worked hard throughout their time at the UTC, engaging in a number of opportunities to explore the world of industry with sponsors Anglian Water, Royal Air Force and Octopus Computers, amongst others. Success stories include: Gabriel Olaofe, member of the school’s Student Leadership Group, who achieved five grade 9s; Jake Thompson, also a member of the school’s Student Leadership Group, who achieved three grade 9s and who has spent his summer completing an internship with sponsor Octopus Computers.

Principal, David Bisley, praised the effort of his students and staff and said: “The mature manner in which our students have handled the last five months is testament to their dedication to both their studies and to their unrelenting focus on ensuring they move onto the next stage in their education and training. “Our staff have worked hard over the last two weeks to ensure our students are supported and able to achieve their first choice destinations.
