Kelly Joiner, community engagement lead at Thomas Deacon Academy, said: “The TDA vision is to ensure that each student acquires the necessary knowledge, skills and character to make a positive contribution to society and thrive as a global citizen.

“As part of achieving this we have developed the Character Curriculum which allows our students to take part in activities which have a positive impact on their social, moral, spiritual and cultural development, whilst also having a positive impact on the school and local community.

“We are thrilled to have put this into practise with our recent litter pick and achieve something productive to protect our environment and wildlife. Together, we look forward to further working with students, staff, parents and local businesses to create innovative solutions to local issues and develop opportunities to celebrate our wonderful community.”

Pupils at the academy, which is part of the Thomas Deacon Education Trust, collected plenty of litter and were pleased to have contributed to the project.

Year 7 student Weronika said: “Every little bit counts to help change the world.”

Another Year 7 pupil, Daniel, added: “I am taking part in the litter pick to help save the animals.”
