A-LEVEL RESULTS: Excellent results at Voyager Academy with 83 per cent increase in A*s and As and more than double the university places

The results saw 44 per cent of exams return A*-B grades with an overall pass rate of 98 per cent, despite 63 per cent more entries compared to last year.

A record number of 75 pupils from the school in Walton will now go to university, more than double the number from last year.

Daniel Taylor, director of sixth form, said: “The sixth form has always been a source of pride for The Voyager Academy. Our pass rate has been consistently good and in line with the national average and this year we’ve seen a record number of students guarantee achieve university places, exceeding all of our expectations.

“Our students have worked so hard over the past two years and we hope they are as proud as we are – they’ve been a credit to the academy.”

Damon Lewis, associate assistant principal and progress leader for sixth form, said, “Our sixth form students’ success this year has been phenomenal. To see the number of students securing places at universities double in just a year is an incredible success – well done to all our students.”

“Our recent Ofsted report commented on the success of our growing sixth form, and we’re pleased that this year’s results reinforce our sixth form’s reputation as an ambitious, rigorous place of learning where students can achieve their full potential.”

There were particularly notable achievements. These included:

. Ridah Khan who achieved AAB in biology, chemistry and sociology and will now study medicine at St George’s, University of London.

. Matteo Spremulli achieved A*AA in maths, economics and physics and will study maths and economics at the University of Nottingham.

. Douglas Henderson achieved AAB in maths, economics and German. He is going to study economics with management with study abroad at Durham University.

. Eleisha Ward achieved four Distinction*s in health and social care and science and gained an unconditional offer from the University of Manchester to study adult nursing.

. George Smith played at Reading and Leeds festivals last summer but returned to complete his studies, achieving two Distinction*s in music and 2 Distinctions in music technology. The Academy of Contemporary Music was so impressed they made him two separate offers, and George has chosen to study music and creative artistry.

Jack Cave, having been supported through sixth form by the Sutton Trust, was able to secure a place at Durham University to study business and management with business placement.
