Jason Lovett has raised more than £2,000 for Heltwate School

An inspirational Peterborough dad has completed a mammoth challenge of running 10 miles every day in June to raise vital funds for a local special needs school.

Jason Lovett achieved his ambitious goal of running 300 miles last month in aid of Heltwate School where his son, Anakin, attends.

Despite contracting cellulitis and enduring Peterborough’s hottest June day on record, Jason remained resilient and completed the challenge on June 30.

He even managed to record a personal best time on June 29 of 1 hour and 45 minutes for a 10-mile run.

Jason’s epic challenge came to an end at Peterborough Athletics Track on June 30, when he finally clocked 300 miles for the month. His efforts have raised more than £2,300 for Heltwate School, which offers education for pupils aged four to 19 with moderate to severe learning difficulties.

All funds will go towards improving the facilities at Heltwate School, with a newly-created Amazon ‘wish list’ set up where members of the public can buy additional equipment and resources.

Speaking to the Peterborough Telegraph, Jason said: “The biggest battles aren’t the physical or mental battles on their own, it’s the days where your legs won’t work and your mind won’t work.

“It’s a lot different than I thought it would be because I do all my training on a treadmill in the garage, so out on the streets it’s a bit different, but it’s all going okay so far. “It doesn’t get any easier, you’re just a year older and not a year wiser! You just have to put more effort in to get to the end goal.” The Just Giving page for the fundraiser currently sits at £1,750, well above the initial £1,500 target.

You can still support Jason’s campaign by donating on Just Giving or purchasing an item from the Amazon Wish List page.
