Businesses across the county have responded in force to an appeal from Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce for Champions last week to help drive the economic recovery after Covid.

Chamber chief executive John Bridge said that so far 2,400 businesses had expressed a willingness to act as Local Business Champions with a further 600 signing up to be Global Trade Champions to help power overseas trade.

The volunteers come from across the county although most are based in Peterborough and Cambridge.

Mr Bridge said: “I am delighted with the response. It is really good and we have also received lots of messages of support from people.”

He said the next move would be to draw up a programme of action to tackle the key issues facing business and work out what support would be needed.

A Stagecoach bus is also expected to be decked out in the Championing Business branding as a way of encouraging more support right across the county for the initiative.
