Peterborough-based Thomas Cook extends holiday cancellations to Sharm el Sheikh

Peterborough holiday giant Thomas Cook has extended its ban on holidays to Sharm el Sheikh.

The company has cancelled holidays to the Red Sea resort up to and including February 6 next year.

The move comes just four months after the Bretton-based firm decided to cancel holidays to Sharm el Sheikh for the entire summer season.

The action came in the wake of the bombing of a Russian charter flight in October last year

A spokeswoman for Thomas Cook said: “The Foreign and Commonwealth Office continues to advise against travel to Sharm el Sheikh.

“So to ensure our customers have time to find the best possible alternative for them and their families, we have cancelled holidays to that resort up to and including Monday 06 February 2017.

“All customers whose bookings have been affected by this decisions have already been contacted to arrange an alternative holiday, or a refund if necessary.

“Booking conditions remain as normal for travel after February 6 pending further Foreign and Commonwealth Office advice.

She added: “The safety and well-being of our customers is our first priority, and we continue to monitor travel advice and keep our customers updated.
