‘On-site preparations are moving forward’: Lidl shares update on when new Hampton store could open
Construction began in late 2025
Lidl says that preparations for its new Peterborough store are “moving forward” ahead of its intended opening later this year.
Construction work on the new 8.2 acre site in The Boulevard, Hampton, began late last year as part of a wider commercial hub project.
Set to create around 40 new jobs, the new Lidl had its alcohol licence approved in November 2025 and will be located just a few hundred yards from rival supermarket Aldi.

Back in March Lidl told the Peterborough Telegraph that it planned for the new Hampton store to open its doors this autumn.
The chain has now revealed that its opening date will hinge on the completion of surrounding road improvements.
A Lidl GB spokesperson said: “We are progressing with plans for the new Lidl store in Hampton, Peterborough, which will bring our high-quality, affordable products to the local community.
“While on-site preparations are moving forward, our final timeline is being coordinated alongside the completion of surrounding road improvements, which are currently progressing through the standard approval processes with Peterborough City Council.
“We look forward to sharing further updates with local residents as things progress.”
Once complete, the new site will bring the total number of Lidl stores in Peterborough to five.
