Production at East Anglian Galvanizing, in Old Great North Road, has been on hold following the fire in August.

But now bosses have announced that extensive repair work has been completed and the plant is now fully operational.

Chris Woolridge, managing director of Wedge Group Galvanizing, which owns the business, said: “The fire caused significant damage to the roof structure and we’ve had to replace the cladding as well as install new electrics and lighting.

“We’ve also replaced or repaired some internal equipment, including all of our cranes, so it was certainly an extensive remedial programme.

“But our expert engineers have worked tirelessly alongside specialist contractors to ensure the premises have been returned to their usual high standard of operations as quickly as possible.”

Despite the enforced shutdown, the business went on providing a regular service from the plant by utilising the nationwide network of the group.

Mr Woolridge said: “After the fire, we immediately put contingency plans in place and have done our very best to minimise disruption during the last few months.

“We’ve received tremendous support from our customers in that time and are extremely grateful for their patience and understanding.

“Many of our colleagues within the plant agreed to be temporarily transferred to neighbouring plants.”

“So it’s great for them that they can now return to their home plant.

“I’d also like to offer my personal and heartfelt thanks to the entire team at East Anglian Galvanizing and the wider group, who’ve pulled out all the stops.

“It’s because of them that we’ve able to return stronger than ever and so quickly.”
