EXPLAINED: What will be happening to Peterborough’s Beefeater Granary after it closes on September 10?
The restaurant will close its doors in just a few weeks time
Diners have just a few weeks left to enjoy a meal at Peterborough’s Beefeater Granary before it closes on September 10.
The restaurant is one of nearly 200 Whitbread-owned sites closing their doors as part of a five-year plan to save £250 million.
Whitbread, which owns hotel chain Premier Inn, plans to close all 197 of its standalone Beefeater, Brewers Fayre and Table Table restaurants.

As a result, the strategic shift will see food and drink operations integrated into Premier Inn hotels.
The closing date for Hampton’s Brewers Fayre restaurant has not yet been confirmed.
Whitbread is gradually announcing closing dates for affected restaurants across the country, with some set to cease operations as early as next month.
Some of the 197 restaurants set to close, such as the Burton House Brewers Fayre in Boston, have already been listed for sale.

What will happen to the Beefeater Granary after it closes?
Under the restructure, Whitbread plans for some of its restaurants to be converted into Premier Inn hotel rooms, while others will be sold off.
In the case of Peterborough’s Beefeater and Brewers Fayre restaurants, both are located next to Premier Inn hotels, meaning they could potentially be converted into more rooms.
Back in April, Whitbread’s chief executive, Dominic Paul, said: “We plan to convert all our remaining branded restaurants to an integrated food and beverage offer that is preferred by our hotel guests and will unlock the addition of more highly profitable extension rooms.
“Our continued efforts to drive our commercial plan and efficiencies will extend our market-leading position and allow us to take share from our competitors, many of which are struggling to grow.”
