Peterborough's Beefeater Granary announces date it will close down

Peterborough’s Beefeater Granary has announced the date the restaurant will close its doors for good.

The Granary, located on Ham Lane at Orton Meadows, is to close on Thursday September 10 following a decision from the company’s ownership.

In May, Premier Inn owner Whitbread announced a new five-year cost-cutting plan, which included the closure of all of its 197 Beefeater, Brewers Fayre and TableTable restaurants.

This is part of a five-year strategy to save £250million at a loss of 3,800 jobs across the UK.

As well as its Beefeater, Peterborough also has a Brewers Fayre in Hampton but a closure date for this is yet to be confirmed.

Whitbread has said that some of the existing Beefeater and Brewers Fayre restaurants will be converted into Premier Inn rooms, while others will be sold off.

Whitbread plans to have integrated restaurants in its hotels, rather than standalone eateries. In the case of Peterborough’s Beefeater and Brewers Fayre restaurants, both are located next to Premier Inn hotels, meaning they could potentially be converted into more rooms.

Anyone signed up with the Beefeater Reward Club has until Monday August 31 to to convert their points into vouchers for use in restaurants. Any remaining points will expire on Tuesday September 1.
