Coronavirus: Peterborough company sets up PPE donation bank

With PPE (personal protective equipment) shortages are affecting care homes, frontline workers and hospitals all across the country, HowSafe Ltd in Peterborough has set up a bank for those with PPE to donate to which will be passed forward to those in need.

Wanting to act quickly Clark Howe, managing director, knew there was no time to waste. He said: “We had the idea of asking our customers, the local community and suppliers for any spare PPE they would consider donating. There was no messing about, it was a case of let’s make it happen and make it happen quickly.

“I said to my team at the start, ‘it doesn’t matter if we only help one person, or a small number of people, it’s the trying that counts’. I’m so proud of my team and so thankful to those who have donated so far.”

The family business which has been running for more than 40 years has since donated gloves, masks and respirators. With thousands of products already donated, and more on the way, HowSafe has donated generously to Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall hospice and Philia Lodge Rest Home in Eastfield Road.

HowSafe is urging anyone with any spare PPE to drop it off at their business: Howsafe Ltd, 18-20 Challenger Way, Edgerly Business Park, PE1 5EX. They are looking for: disposable gloves, disposable respirators, safety goggles, full face visors, disposable suits, sleeves, aprons and overshoes and sanitisers.
