According to the latest government guidelines, hairdressers have been told they can re-open and begin their services from April 12.
Casey Kamau, who runs Hair Perfection By Casey, is filled with excitement and butterflies ahead of re-opening.
She said: “All of my clients have been so excited with the news of being able to book in. Rebooking everyone has been a very big task. With an opening date of April 12 and a full client base it would typically take months to rebook everyone back in.”
Planning on working six to seven days a week to catch up, for Casey the job is more than just styling hair.
She said: “It’s a time to connect with my clients, deliver that much needed pamper and help them feel their very best.
“The confidence we feel after a hair appointment is so uplifting and for me it is all of these I’ve missed being able to provide.
“As much as I know my clients have really missed their appointments I have missed them too! I’ve missed our catch ups and time to check in and ask “how are you?”, which is so important, especially during such worrying times like we’ve had over this last year.”
Meanwhile Jessica Whiting, spent her first lockdown building her own labour of love, a new salon in Werrington Village, only to be open for just three weeks before having to close her doors.
She said: “The Garden Room was only created in lockdowns one and two, finally being able to open its doors on December 2 for the first time.
“I only managed to open for three weeks before being told with six hours notice that hairdressers had to shut again the week before Christmas, as everyone knows is our busiest time.
“Devastated wasn’t even the word. I cannot wait to welcome back the lucky ones who saw the salon and my clients that are yet to see it.
“I’m going to be working pretty much every hour under the sun with everyone desperate to get in.
“It’s taken hours trying to get everyone booked in fitting in with schedules but most people’s response has been any day, any time they will book time off work! This just shows how loyal and respectful my clients really are.”
Facing similar long hours to catch up with clients, Biana Ricciardi, 27 who runs @hairbybiancax has been hairdressing for eleven years and has her own salon based in Stanground.
She said: “It’s been difficult knowing when or if to start booking clients in as there is always the uncertainty of the date changing.
“I’ll be working longer days and six days a week to catch up with all the appointments.
“My clients are so excited knowing they have a date to look forward to and their hair appointments are getting closer each day. I love doing hair but I’ve missed the social side to my job and can’t wait to catch up with everyone.”
