Peterborough charity shop inundated with donations, ahead of reopening

The Sense shop in Peterborough is enjoying a boom in stock donations following home clear-outs during lockdown.

The public have been busy going through unwanted items and the shop in Lincoln Road - which is due to reopen on Monday, June 22 - is set to benefit.

Now, with lockdown easing and the high street preparing to reopen, Sense has put in place strict new measures to protect the health and safety of staff and customers.

They will include a 72-hour quarantine for all donated stock, which is also thoroughly cleaned. Protective screens are being installed at the cash till, and only a limited number of customers will be permitted to come in at a time to ensure social distancing. In addition to new stock, the shop will now also sell hand-sanitiser.

Adrian Darkin, Sense director of trading, said: “There has been a boom in a stock donation, with the public using the lockdown period to clear their homes of unwanted goods.

"We’re so grateful to the public for supporting us, with the money raised by the donated stock enabling us to support some of the most vulnerable people in society, who during this challenging period, need us more than ever.

"We’re excited to reopen, and we want to reassure our customers that their health and wellbeing, along with our staff and volunteers, is the top priority and we are taking every measure to protect them.”
