If the proposed development secures the go ahead, it could see the creation of 257 jobs over the next four years.

The plans have been drawn up by FCC Environment for a large expanse of land at the west of the former Dogsthorpe Landfill site, in Welland Road, Eye.

Waste management company FCC Environmental is seeking approval to create 11,400 square metres of industrial floorspace, a new petrol station, a drive-thru coffee shop occupying 310 square metres and a new purpose designed access.

A spokeswoman for the Northampton-headquartered company said: “It is hoped that all buildings will be occupied by mid-2024, with the first buildings being brought into use by mid-2023.

“It is anticipated that once fully occupied, the development could generate approximately 257 new jobs.

She added: “The proposed development offers an exciting opportunity to create significant job opportunities, improve a redundant and vacant site, delivering high quality employment development which would complement other initiatives and development proposals in the surrounding area.”

An outline application has been submitted to Peterborough City Council with precise details of the development, including the layout and building heights, to be revealed if the principle of the development is agreed by planners.

The spokeswoman said: “The site is located on the western part of the former landfill tip.

“The site mainly comprises land previously occupied by uses associated with the former landfill facility and the household waste recycling centre which has recently been relocated.

“The northern part of the site comprises a void left after historical mineral workings. The void will be filled with suitable material to create a development platform.

An application document submitted to the council states: “FCC is now looking to diversify their business assets on land no longer required for their core services.

“The proposed development is one of several added value projects being progressed across the UK.”
