The county’s Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the school holidays, with a different theme each year.

This year, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, The Reading Agency is running the challenge as a digital activity for the county library service.

Launched in June, participating children are being invited to join the ‘Silly Squad’, an adventurous team of animals who encourage them to celebrate all kinds of funny books with them.

Children can keep track of the books they are reading, unlocking activities and virtual reward badges as they work towards completing their personal reading goal.

There are book recommendations, as well as super silly activities, quizzes, videos and games for children and their families to enjoy - and it is free for children to take part.

Although the Summer Reading Challenge is aimed at children aged 4-11, younger children are also welcome to take part.

The challenge will be extended either side of the main school holidays to keep children reading and entertained.

Any updates to the Summer Reading Challenge offer will be posted on the Cambridgeshire Libraries website and the Cambridgeshire Libraries Facebook page. You can also keep track of the Silly Squad on twitter by searching for #sillysquad2020.
