Whole school enjoys a day at Ferry Meadows
Burrowmoor Primary Academy in March, Cambridgeshire, has successfully brought its entire school community together to enjoy a memorable whole-school trip to Ferry Meadows Country Park in Peterborough, thanks to a year of dedicated fundraising and community support.

Throughout the academic year, pupils, staff, and families worked tirelessly to raise funds for the special trip. Activities included a lively skipathon, cake sales, and a range of other events. The school’s parent group, Friends of Burrowmoor, also made a significant contribution through proceeds raised from their popular bingo events.
As a result of these combined efforts, a total of 330 children and 50 members of staff were able to attend the trip—an achievement that reflects the strength and commitment of the Burrowmoor community.

A particularly exciting feature of the day was the opportunity for many children to travel by train—some for the very first time. This element of the trip was made possible through collaboration with Greater Anglia, East Midlands Railway, CrossCountry Trains, and Hereward Community Rail Partnership. Joanne Rose, Community Rail Officer from Fenland District Council, worked closely with the school to help turn this vision into a reality.
The train journey added an extra layer of excitement and discovery, giving pupils a unique and memorable experience as they travelled to and from Peterborough.
Once at Ferry Meadows, the children enjoyed a day filled with fun, freedom, and physical activity. The programme included sports sessions supported by Peterborough United Football Club (POSH), playground games, and time to explore the park’s play areas and natural surroundings.
Headteacher at Burrowmoor Primary Academy commented: “All our children had the best day. They were able to be free and have fun, whilst also going on a train. They were surrounded by their friends, and as they arrived at Ferry Meadows, their faces were filled with awe and excitement. We could not have done this for our children without your support and the support of the wonderful team of staff at Burrowmoor.”

This remarkable achievement highlights the power of community collaboration and shared ambition, ensuring that every child had the chance to take part in a truly special experience—one that will create lasting memories for years to come.
