Longueville Court Care Home welcomes local firefighters for a heartwarming breakfast visit
Longueville Court Care Home was delighted to host members of the local fire service from Dogsthorpe Fire Station for a special breakfast visit that brought joy, conversation, and community spirit to residents and staff alike.

The Green Watch crew, along with the Roaming Pump crew, joined residents for a traditional full English breakfast prepared by the home’s chef Steven Ginns, creating a warm and lively atmosphere filled with laughter and meaningful connection.

Firefighters spent time sitting with residents, sharing stories, and getting to know one another in a relaxed and friendly setting.
In addition to the breakfast gathering, the visiting firefighters went above and beyond by spending time with residents who were unable to leave their rooms, ensuring everyone had the opportunity to be part of the special day.
One of the highlights of the visit was the chance for residents to see the fire engines up close. Those who wished were given a guided tour, offering a fascinating glimpse into the equipment and daily life of the fire service. The experience sparked excitement and curiosity, with many residents reminiscing and asking questions.

Coinciding with Saint Florian’s Day, International Firefighters’ Day is celebrated around the world. Saint Florian, who was said to be one of the first commanding firefighters of a Roman battalion, saved many lives and is the patron saint of firefighters. The event was created in 1999 after five firefighters died tragically in a wildfire in Australia to highlight the sacrifices made by fire crews around the world who all unite in the fight against one common enemy – fire.
Krzysztof Krzysztofiak, General Manager at the home, said: “Our local firefighters put their lives on the line every day to save our lives, loved ones and homes, and even our forests, cities and towns, so we wanted to take the opportunity to let them know just how much we appreciate all that they do for us. We think they are truly wonderful human beings.”

David Crowson, who lives at Longueville Court, said: “I can’t imagine how terrifying it must be to go into a burning building to rescue someone, I think our fire crews are absolutely amazing and I can’t thank them enough for their service. They are all heroes in my eyes.”
