Celebrations at Tixover House were a touch dram-atic
World Whisky Day invites everyone to try a dram and celebrate the ‘water of life’, taking place annually on the third Saturday in May, this special occasion is celebrated by whisky lovers worldwide.

Whether you’re a die-hard Scots whisky fan, an Irish whisky lover, or you like to mix it up and try something new, World Whisky Day, celebrated this year on May 16th, is the perfect day to immerse yourself in the wonderful world of whisky. It was certainly a day of fun-filled tastings for the staff and residents at Tixover care home in Rutland.
To mark the day, residents had so much fun taking part in a live virtual event: Scotch Whisky Experience. Where we learnt the history of distilling whisky in Scotland, the production process, and the regional characteristics of single malts. We also enjoyed a dram of whisky alongside this great event.
Ive Alexander, General Manager at Tixover House said: “We have all learned so much today about the history of whisky, how it is made and all the different places it is made now, not just in Scotland and Ireland – who knew there was such a thing as Japanese whisky?! Our residents really enjoyed their tasting session and had great fun sampling some whisky-based cocktail recipes.”
Peter Hankins, a resident at Tixover House commented: “I love a wee dram of whisky, there really isn’t anything better. I really enjoyed trying some different blends and mixers, and learning about where the different whiskies came from. I think I will sleep well tonight!”
