WATCH: Hamerton Zoo near Peterborough welcomes adorable and fierce new arrivals

From a tiny slow-moving tree dweller – to ferocious feline – Hamerton Zoo Park has revealed a couple of new furry faces.

Staff have proudly announced the arrival of a black leopard from France, and a baby sloth – recently born at the park.

Lela the black leopard arrived in mid-December from Lumigny Safari Reserve in France and staff at the zoo say she is “settling in beautifully”.

“The name Lela means ‘black beauty’ and was chosen by our keepers,” a zoo spokesperson said. “To ensure a calm transition for her new home, the public viewing path will be opened gradually. She can currently be seen in her enclosure when she's exploring around.”

The female sloth was born in November to resident sloths Vee and Mr Snuffles, and has just been named Clawdia by staff – in honour of TV presenter Claudia Winkleman.

Clawdia is baby number four for this pair, and the fifth baby sloth born at Hamerton Zoo Park in the past four years.

The name was inspired by Claudia Winkleman as the zoo’s keeper team have all become big fans of the BBC reality show ‘The Traitors’ – which Winkleman hosts.

Visitors maybe able to glimpse both of the new residents at the park now.

For more information about planning a visit, head over to the zoo’s website.
