New venue for World Cup parties

Poor tickets sales have forced the organisers of Peterborough’s planned World Cup street parties to find a new venue.

England’s Group Stage clashes with USA and then Wales later this month were due to have been shown on a big screen at the East of England Showground’s huge main arena.

However, with the first game to be shown just two weeks off the plug has been pulled on the venue – and the parties switched to Willoughby’s nightclub in Stamford.

“We are very gutted to inform that due to us not hitting a 30% ticket sale quota last Friday the East of England Arena have cancelled our events,” said a spokesman, who was responsible for the massive World Cup and Euros parties over the past decade in Peterborough.

“We are devastated with this, but respect the decision from the venue as they need to have everything in place and staff organised in advance.

"So with this in mind we have now found a new home at Willoughby’s Nightclub in Stamford. We hope people understand that we have done everything to find a venue in the city of Peterborough but had no joy whatsoever.”

All people who have purchased tickets have been informed and offered a full refund or to move their tickets to Stamford. If anyone wants to get in touch got to www.worldcup2022.uk.

Tickets are on sale now for Stamford – £5 for the USA game on November 25, and £8 for the match v Wales on November 29 – both will have pre-match and half-time entertainment.
