Warrior Queen Boudica under clear skies at Peterborough's Flag Fen

History is coming alive under the summer sun as Peterborough Mask Theatre brings its spectacular outdoor production of Tristan Bernays’ Boudica to Flag Fen Archaeology Park.

Opening on Friday, July 10, this high-octane production brings Britain’s ultimate warrior queen right back to the historic soil where her ancestors walked.

Moving away from dry textbooks, Boudica is a fast-paced, visceral retelling of the legendary AD61 Celtic uprising. It follows a mother pushed to the absolute edge, rallying both her family and fractured tribes to fiercely challenge the ruthless might of the Roman Empire.

Staged adjacent to an actual Roman Road and Flag Fen’s authentic, reconstructed Iron Age roundhouses, the production promises an unforgettable atmospheric experience as the sun sets over the fens.

With the long-range weather forecast looking highly promising for the outdoor run, final preparations are underway. Audiences will see the cast painted in striking blue woad, delivering intense physical theatre and gripping stage combat.

Tickets are selling fast, but a limited number remain for selected dates. Audiences are reminded that this is an authentic outdoor experience with a recommended age rating of 14+ due to intense themes.

There is no seating provided at the archaeological site, so patrons must bring their own low-backed camping chairs or picnic blankets. Waterproof ponchos are highly favoured in place of umbrellas, should the need arise, and packing insect repellent is advised.

Audiences are welcome to bring their own picnics and alcohol to enjoy on-site. Grab your tickets now to secure your place in the shield wall—and remember to bring your war face!

Performance dates are July 10–11 and July 16–18. Recommended for 14+ audience
