Go Wild... have a summer of fun at Flag Fen

From Romans to late-night stargazing, bushcraft to mediumship, Peterborough’s Flag Fen Archaeology Park is serving up a summer where history, nature and imagination all meet in one unforgettable place.

The weekend July 18 and 19 allows visitors to step straight into Roman Britain for an action-packed living history weekend (Romans Life & Legends) that promises to be a great day out for all the family, packed with live demonstrations, interactive activities, historical characters, and engaging storytelling.

Then as the school holidays kick in, there is more from the Romans from July 20 to August 2.

You can barter in a Roman marketplace, try on a toga, learn Roman numerals, and dig like an archaeologist in the Big Dig Tent. Plus craft your own clay coin and leafy wreath crown - perfect for aspiring emperors.

Stories Beneath Our Feet, from August 3-16, allows visitors to uncover the hidden lives of plants, prehistoric storytelling and ancient traditions. Get creative, explore artefacts, and even help record Flag Fen’s story using iPads - this is history meets modern tech!

At Bushcraft & Nature Discoveries, from August 17-31, you can build shelters, light fires safely, go pond-dipping, identify plants, and test navigation skills. It’s part survival skills, part wildlife adventure, and entirely outdoor fun.

There are also a number of one-off specialist events, starting with an Astronomy Evening on July 25 (9.30pm - 11.30pm).

Discover the universe from the fenland landscape with this session combining live telescope viewing, a guided night sky tour, informal expert talks and hands-on engagement with equipment. The cost is £35 per person (Age 16+).
