Film Festival brings four days of screenings to Peterborough
A programme of independent films, classics and family favourites makes up the Gateway Film Festival which returns to Peterborough from November 12th to 15th.
Now heading into its eighth year, the festival works with local organisations to bring cinema to community venues across the city, with this year’s programme offering something for film fans, families and curious newcomers alike.
The festival opens on Thursday, November 12, with Super Nature (2026), filmed entirely on Super 8 across 25 countries, in partnership with Flourish at St Mark’s Church Hall (6.30pm). Friday brings John Ford’s The Grapes of Wrath (1940), presented with Friends of Woodston Library (7pm).
Saturdays highlights include Stitch & Screen, pairing Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr Fox (2009) with a chance to bring along your knitting, sewing or crochet at Peterborough Museum (2pm), and a free family screening of Ice Age (2002), presented by Church of the Holy Spirit, Bretton (3.30pm).

The day also features the 30th-anniversary screening of Cheryl Dunye’s groundbreaking The Watermelon Woman (1996) again at Peterborough Museum (6pm).
On Sunday, The Archivist (2026) follows folklorist David “Doc” Rowe as he seeks a home for six decades of recordings documenting Britain’s folk traditions (2pm). The Moving Picture Man (1977) tells the story of Jacinto, who transforms a truck into a travelling cinema to bring films to communities in Venezuela (6pm). Both screenings are at the Museum.
For Festival Director Emily Steele-Dias, the festival is about more than putting on screenings. It’s about creating opportunities for people to experience films they might not otherwise see, in places where they can come together.
“That’s what I’m interested in this year: all the different ways we can share film, and all the different things that can happen when we do.”

With free screenings and pay-what-you-can tickets priced between £3 and £7.50 for selected events, Gateway Film Festival is an opportunity to discover something different this November.
