'Bring your mums and dads for free' gig at Peterborough's Met Lounge

Emerging Lincolnshire-based UK Indie band Vigilantes have come up with a novel ‘reverse’ idea to try to encourage young music fans along to their headline show at Peterborough’s Met Lounge on February 27 by offering free tickets for under-18s to bring along their parents to the show!

Lead singer Curly Woodcliffe explains: “I went to see ( along with a million other people!) the Oasis reunion gigs last Summer and one thing that struck me was the number of young people there watching the show. I couldn’t get my head around why they would be wanting to watch a band who with the greatest respect were old enough to be their dads or even granddads. Why are they not discovering bands a lot closer to their age?

“Then it dawned on me that a lot of these teenagers were actually there with their parents – who were obviously reliving their days when they were teenagers and Oasis were the new ‘big thing’.

“I could seeing Dad’s saying to their teenage sons ‘I was 16/17/18 etc when this song came out’.

“Now there’s nothing wrong with this but these young people really need to be discovering their own ‘Oasis’ or there’s going to be a huge void in years to come where we have a period of no new bands actually coming through.

“So, as a band we thought about it and we’ve come up with a plan to hopefully encourage young people to come and check us out on Friday and they can bring their parents for free!.”

'We’re trying to encourage the young people to find their own new bands to follow and support. Back in 1994 Oasis were playing venues like The Met Lounge before they hit the big time. Talking to young people at gigs they seem to think that bands simply appear and play arenas and stadiums – when you explain that most bands play the small venues at the start of their careers they find it hard to believe.”

Over the past couple of years Vigilantes have supported the likes of The Sherlocks, The Bluetones, The Lottery Winners, Space and Mystery Jets and have appeared on the BBC stage at Latitude Festival and The Isle of Wight Festival.

The show on the 27th features Vigilantes plus new Peterborough bands Midas and Illegal Pool Party. Its open to 14+ and all u16s must be accompanied by 18+/adult. For every ticket purchased by an under-18 they can bring a parent for free. Tickets from Skiddle.
