Are you ready to play for The Money?

A groundbreaking live event – part game, part theatrical experience – which puts the audience in control is coming to Peterborough this month.

When you book your ticket for The Money (being staged at the city’s Anglia Ruskin University on October 25 and 26), you can choose to be either a Silent Witness and watch, or be a Player and take part in coming to a decision about how to spend a pot of real cash.

As a Player you can be as creative as you like. But for the money to be won you must come to an agreement with your fellow players before the timer runs out, and it must be within the law.

If these conditions aren't met, the money rolls over to the next show. But there's a twist. Silent Witnesses can buy in at any time to become players. And that can change everything.....

The playful premise of this renowned work sets the stage for one of the most memorable conversations you'll ever have or witness, as altruism butts heads with personal interests, personalities clash and hierarchies are upended.

The results may be as taut as a thriller or as ludicrous as a farce, but beneath it all you'll be asking: Are there really any values we can agree upon? Is a common ground the most uncommon thing of all? And ultimately, what is the most interesting thing we can do together that we couldn't apart?

Kate Hall, Creative Producer at Peterborough’s Jumped Up Theatre, which is bringing the internationally acclaimed theatrical experience to the city, says: "We originally wanted to bring The Money to Peterborough back in 2020, so I'm delighted we've finally been able to make it happen. It's such a quality piece of work, and such a fun thing to witness (or to play) - and of course no two shows are the same, so anything could happen!

"I think Peterborough people are pretty creative so I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with. We're also really excited to be hosting the show in ARU's brand new Living Lab which is a fantastic new venue for the city."

The staging sees Jumped Up continuing their mission to bring top-tier performances from global touring circuits and major cities to local audiences. Known for making events both physically and financially accessible, Jumped Up is proud to host The Money, a unique experience that has captivated audiences worldwide in iconic venues like the Houses of Parliament and the Sydney Opera House.

The Money is a blend of game and theatre, designed to entertain and engage audiences of all ages (though players must be 14+). This exceptionally fun show challenges players to decide how to spend a pot of money, sparking thought-provoking conversations and encouraging collaboration.

How would you spend the money? And can you persuade others to agree with your decision?

The two live performances take place at ARU Peterborough, Bishops Road, on October 25 at 7.30pm and October 26 at 2.30pm. Tickets are: U25s £8 / Players £10 / Silent Witnesses £12.

The Money is presented by Jumped Up in partnership with ARU Peterborough, supported by Arts Council England and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
