A one-woman cabaret of chaos, confession and catastrophic flatulence

What happens when embarrassment becomes performance art?

In “…And Then John Farted and Everybody Died”, dancer, storyteller and chaos- connoisseur Jenna Unwin takes audiences on a wild, genre-bending ride through the funniest and most mortifying moments of being human.

Blending cabaret, dance, drag, text, and music, this raucous, one-woman comedy – at the Key Theatre Studio on Thursday, November 13 - explodes (sometimes literally) the boundaries of storytelling.

It’s sweaty, silly, deeply personal - and gloriously weird.

Inspired by her dad’s tall tales about his mate John’s world-ending farts, Jenna’s on a mission to celebrate embarrassment in all its messy, honest, and hilarious forms. The show has been developed through workshops gathering real-life “cringe stories” from local people across Peterborough, weaving their true tales of awkwardness, and shared humanity into the performance itself.

“This show is basically my love letter to being awkward,” says Jenna Unwin.

“We spend so much time trying to look cool or in control, but the truth is humans are gloriously messy. The workshops proved it! Everyone’s got that one story that still makes them cringe. If we can laugh about those moments together, that’s a real connection. It’s shared humility, and it’s magic. I just happen to do it with in heels, with a fog machine, and a suspicious smell in the air.”

Jenna is a performance artist from rural Cambridgeshire. She trained with the National Youth Dance Company, performing in Akram Khan’s The Rashomon Effect, before continuing her studies at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, where she performed works choreographed by Matthew Slater, Joss Baker, and Hannes Langolf.
