Borough’s 2020-21 league season was wiped out by Covid, but the city club have arranged a friendly against neighbours Stamford at Fengate.

Unfortunately no spectators are allowed to attend.

Manning said: “The game gives myself and Sam Crooks (assistant coach) a chance to see how the lads are able to use the structure and systems we have put in place. Like any game we want to win but the performance is the most important thing.

“It also gives us a chance to see how individual players respond to a pressure situation and we can get a good look at our new players. You can train and try to create certain playing conditions at practice, but you can’t beat the real pressure of a game.

“The squad has trained hard for the last six weeks and we can’t wait to finally play after 13 months of non-activity.”

Newcomers Michael Hall (fly half), Liam Dunne (loose forward), Sam Cowell (prop) and Murphy Hill (centre) should all be in action against Stamford. RYan Morris will skipper Borough.

Borough squad: Forwards: Chris Sykes, Arron Throne, Stu Day, Sam Cowell, Sam Crooks, Rob Linnell, Luke Swindells, Liam Dunne, Robert Moulds, Zac McClure, Josh Myles. Backs: Ross Chamberlain, Tom Downer, Michael Hall, Byron Van Uden, Ryan Morris (C), Murphy Hill, Rob Jacobs, Louis Smedley, Aram Jones, Tom Stuffins, James Stuffins.
