Hat-tricks for Henry and Joe as Peterborough Rugby League Club continue their winning start to the season
Peterborough Rugby League Club completed a hat-trick of Midlands League wins with a 48-32 success at Sherwood Wolfhunt on Saturday.
The city club had to overcome injury hurdles and played the entire second half a man down, but Henry Hobson and coach Joe Radding both claimed a hat-trick of tries to ensure another win.

The game began at a frantic pace, with both teams crossing for two tries apiece in the opening exchanges. Hobson powered over for Peterborough before Raddings also crossed. Defence dominated much of the remainder of the first half as both sides battled hard for territory. Hobson grabbed his second try in the closing stages of the half, but Sherwood responded with a score of their own to keep the contest finely balanced at 18-16 to the visitors at the break with Ciaran Thompson’s accuracy from the kicking tee proving crucial. Injuries to Paddy Berryman, Dan Mills and Matthew Tapley left Peterborough struggling for numbers after the break, but prop Chris Sykes continued his impressive scoring form by crashing over for the opening try of the second period. Further scores from Raddings and Kelvin Squires allowed Peterborough to open up daylight between themselves and their hosts. As the game wore on, Peterborough’s determination and fitness shone through. Hobson and Raddings both completed their hat-tricks, while Sykes produced a stunning 40-metre break that epitomised the visitors’ attacking intent. Peterborough return to home action on June 6 when they host Chesterfield Forgers. The club are always looking to welcome new players, regardless of experience. Training takes place at 7pm every Tuesday and Thursday at Peterborough RUFC’s Fengate base, with new faces encouraged to come along and get involved.
