Dylan was devastating and Luke was electric as Peterborough Rugby League Club continued a great start to the season
Peterborough Rugby League Club’s storming start to the season continued with a big Midlands League win in Mansfield on Saturday.
The city side were handed a late fixture switch and travelled to Sherwood Wolfhunt after scheduled opponents Chesterfield Forgers failed to raise a side, but they took it in their stride by running in 10 tries to record a 58-12 win. Dylan Evans scored 5 of them and captain Luke Whitby claimed a hat-trick against a side Borough had beaten 48-32 in their previous outing.

The visitors wasted little time stamping their authority on the contest. Evans opened the scoring with a trademark weaving run, slicing through the Wolfhunt defence to touch down. Ciaran Thompson calmly added the extras.
Borough doubled their advantage soon after when Pierce Knox powered over from close range following a strong attacking set. A third try soon followed from Henry Hobson after a strong break from Whitby.
A spell of stalemate followed as both sides traded strong defensive sets. One of five Peterborough debutants, Brandon Whittaker impressed with a mature kicking display, repeatedly pinning the determined Wolfhunt side deep inside their own territory.
The home side responded with a try of their own after sustained pressure, but Borough quickly regained control. Evans once again carved through the defence with an arcing run to score before Whitby forced his way through several defenders on the final play of the half to extend the advantage. Thompson maintained his flawless record with the boot as Peterborough entered the break with a 24-6 lead.
Thompson then got himself on the try scoresheet, darting over from hooker with a trademark sniping run around the ruck. Evans followed by taking centre stage, helping himself to 3 further tries as he repeatedly punished gaps in the tiring Wolfhunt defence.
To their credit, the host continued to battle and produced one of the moments of the match with a well-worked finish in the corner, expertly converted from the touchline.
Any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished though. From a strong scrum position, Whitby stepped through a gap to claim his second try and he soon added a third after gathering a restart and carrying the ball the length of the field to round off a convincing victory, a fifth in a row to start the season, which includes a walkeover against Chesterfield, and a 4-point lead at the top.
