Wacky running races have made the most of Tik Tok, inside leg measurements and the New York Subway!

There have been some wacky athletics challenges taking place throughout the lockdown period.

Thorney Runners were responsible for the most unusual, and perhaps also most imaginative, competition.

Club members have been encouraged to run the equivalent number of minutes to their inside leg measurement in inches. The athletes have to predict how far they can run in that time with the closest prediction the winner.

Bushfield Joggers held a pairs handicap marathon with an added Tik Tok element, while club stalwart Eric Winstone competed in the European Masters virtual 5km and 10km championships.

At Werrington Martin Stevens made the decision to run the equivalent of the 247.52 mile length of the New York Subway System in 28 days, and has a special medal winging its way to him across the Atlantic.

Andy Hall of Werrington has been competing in virtual reality duathlon competitions, from which he could qualify for the genuine world championship.

Phil Martin had been due to take part in the Comrades Ultra Marathon in South Africa the previous Saturday.

With two of his biggest loves, competitive racing and beer at the Windmill in Orton Waterville off the menu, Martin chose to run a virtual version of the race. He made the decision on behalf of his other great love, fiance Rachel Stone of Bushfield Joggers, that they should run the 90km distance of the ultra between them in one day.
