Two out of three wasn't bad for Top Yard boxers as their own prestigious Home Show looms large

Top Yard boxers won two of three bouts in Huntingdon as the club warms up for their own prestigious show later this month.

It was packed out event, but that didn’t bother Top Yard debutant Johny Winters. The 13 year-old was up against Berinsfield ABC boxer Alfie Crawley and started off cautiously, but he still won the first round before increasing his pace to deliver some well-executed combinations to keep his opponent on the back-foot. The unanimous points win for Winters was well deserved.

Lewis Burton (14) has been compiling some outstanding results. His record means he is always matched up against the toughest opponents and so it was here against experienced boxer Olie Ritson from Berinsfield ABC, a youngster with over 20 bouts under his belt.

Burt Burton takes all opponents in his stride and he was impressive again to claim a unanimous points verdict. Sharp jabs and a barrage of 2-3 punch combinations enabled the city teenager to take control and he just became more dominant as the fight wore on.

Top Yard’s Okan Qasim (14) was also in action and he fought well against against Dylan Harding from Bletchley ABC, but lost a close points decision.

Harding was the taller fighter, but Okan started fast and got through enough times to take the first round. In the second round saw Harding begin to step on the gas and to use his long reach to his advantage as both boxers traded blows in an absorbing contest. With the fight on the line the third round was an action packed affair with Harding just nicking it.

All three boxers along side the remaining Top Yard fighters will be in action at the club’s home show on Saturday, November 29 at ‘The Peacock’ in Peterborough. As always, the club expects to have between 15-20 fights on the day featuring some of their brightest talent. Tickets can be purchased on the day.
