The city club have dropped from National League Division Two to Midlands Division One in two seasons and are now back at the same level as fierce rivals Peterborough RUFC.

But the Lions retain their ambition. When they return to the National League they are determined to be better prepared on and off the pitch.

The club even took advantage of the break caused by the coronavirus crisis to start work on an impressive 1,000-seater stand at their Bretton Park base.

Moore said: “If anyone had told me we would be back in Midlands Division One only two seasons after winning promotion to National League 2 I’d have doubted their sanity.

“However, here we are and, when Covid 19 allows, we will be lining up against some old rivals, such as Bedford Athletic, Kettering, Derby and Peterborough, who will all be relishing the thought of revenge against the club that left them behind.

“And I take a positive from the situation. Last season has probably done us a favour as it showed me and the rest of the club that, although we can rise to take on the professionals, unless you are truly professional yourselves you won’t last!

“I’m glad looking back we came straight back down instead of spending unforgivable amounts of money trying to prolong the inevitable.

“This doesn’t mean we won’t go back as we will! Only next time we will be better prepared and commercially aware.

“Plans to revive our ambitions have started over the last couple of months by taking advantage of the premature end to last season by beginning to build a new 1000-seater stand at our base in Bretton.

“You might scoff and say why do you need so many seats? Well I agree, which is why we shall only be using 450 with seven executive suites being created for sponsors and guests etc.

“Underneath we are creating spectator bars, toilets and catering facilities to create a true rugby experience.

“Our head coach Vili Ma’asi is currently having major success recruiting local talent and for the first time we shall be fielding an under 17 side who will head the mini and junior section. We will be represented at every age group and this year we hope to start with toddlers from the age of two!

“Unfortunately, we don’t know yet when we can get back training or when the season will start.

“But one thing is for sure and that is when we do start playing, the Lions will be bigger and better than before. We may be down, but we are definitely on the way back up.”
