Joy for Spalding United and Stamford AFC, disappointment for Bourne Town and Blackstones, March Town game abandoned because of a medical emergency

Spalding United pulled off a remarkable comeback to keep their Southern Premier Division Central title hopes alive.

‘The Tulips’ looked dead and buried when falling 2-0 down at home to Halesowen Town just minutes after star forward Yusifu Ceesay had been sent off after picking up a second yellow card.

But cometh the hour cometh the man in the former of supersub Jack Roberts who created a goal for Maniche Sani before scoring twice himself. A Roberts penalty five minutes from time secured a 3-2 win and a place back at the top of the table, although that position was immediately under threat on Tuesday night when second-placed Harborough Town were due to play one of their two games in hand.

Stamford AFC were also scheduled to play on Tuesday, just three days after finally clambering out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 win at home to Leiston. Leon Lobjoit and Jack Keeble scored for Stamford in the opening half an hour.

Bourne couldn’t emulate their neighbours in the Northern Premier Midlands Division. A point at home to Lichfield City would have moved ‘The Wakes’ out of the drop zone, but they lost 3-2 after easing into a 2-1 lead early in the second-half through goals from Connor Fury and Zak Allen.

Bourne had another chance to get out of the bottom on Tuesday, albeit a tough one at third-placed Anstey Nomads. They play at bottom club Rugby Town in a huge match on Saturday.

Blackstones dropped into the relegation zone in the United Counties Premier Division North despite a creditable 0-0 draw at home to high-fliers Grantham Town. Deeping Rangers gained quick revenge over a Clay Cross Town side who had beaten them the previous weekend courtesy of a Johnny Lockie goal, while Wisbech Town came from 2-0 down to lead 3-2 at Hucknall Town before conceding an 88th minute equaliser.

Blackstones were due to host Hucknall on Wednesday.

March Town were leading leaders Nuneaton 2-1 in the Premier Division South with 91 minutes gone last weekend when the match was abandoned because of a medical emergency in the crowd. Yaxley lost 2-0 at Atherstone.

Two goals from Derick Dadzie delivered a 2-1 win for fourth-placed FC Peterborough at Leiston Reserves in Thurlow Division North and Jack Carter, OIlie Gale, Archie Waterland and Kieran Hibbins were on target as Whittlesey Athletic saw off visitors Gorleston Reserves. Dan Redhead has now played in 400 games for Whittlesey.

Holbeach United were due at FC Peterborough on Wednesday night.
