Joy at golf courses and tennis courts across Peterborough as outside sports allowed to resume

There has been joy across Peterborough as outside sports have been given the green light to resume following the easing of lockdown restrictions in England.

As of Monday (March 29) a number of changes to England’s lockdown rules were made and this includes the resumption of outdoor sport.

Golf, tennis and five-a-side football have all been given the green light to resume. Organised teams sports are exempt from limits on how many people you can meet outside, the rule of six remains in place for social gatherings, so long as everyone is playing.

Outdoor facilities such as tennis, netball and basketball courts can reopen and so can outdoor swimming pools. Social distancing rules remain in place though, with communal areas such as changing rooms to remain closed.

This meant a return for popular city golf clubs Thorpe Wood, Orton Meadows and Peterborough Milton and the tennis courts at Central Park were once again in use.

The Lido also reopened its gates after remaining closed throughout the while of 2020. It is thought to be the first time that has happened since it was built in 1936 and there were large queues to greet its reopening.
