'Big Gun' Baker wins gold as Peterborough Police Boxing Club fighters impress at various venues!
Peterborough Police Boxing Club ‘big gun’ Alfie Baker won a gold medal at the Guerrilla Box Cup in Neath, South Wales.
Boxers competed in a round-robin tournament format. Each competitor had the opportunity to box up to three times, with overall points deciding the winner. The standard of competition was exceptionally high, featuring strong international opposition.

Baker won the male elite 85kg category while clubmates Alijaan Raja and Kian Aragosa picked up sliver medals in the male junior 54kg and male schools 48kg categories respectively.
In addition Kyryl Malyk delivered three tough, crowd-pleasing performances, while Reggie Baker boxed two high-class bouts against top multi-national champions.

The Police Club also took a team of six to the New Era Box Cup in Braintree where Corey Allen (60kg, junior category) produced a superb display to claim silver, narrowly losing out by a 3–2 split decision to a Polish international champion.
It was one of the most debated verdicts of the tournament, but to push an international champion so close was a tremendous achievement and a proud moment for the club.
Yannis Roman also found himself on the wrong end of a highly questionable decision after a very strong showing. Despite the outcome, he can hold his head high following a performance that underlined his ability and determination.
There were also solid displays from Kian Aragosa, Harry McQuade, Kyryl Malyk and Eoin McDonagh, who all faced tough, high-class opponents and gained valuable experience on a big stage.

At the Cambs Police home show 16-year-old Stefan Micu made an unforgettable debut for the city club. Micu dominated each round with classy angled attacks and impressive switches to both head and body. Showing maturity beyond his years, he secured a strong stoppage victory in the third round.
Also representing the club was 12-year-old Eoin McDonagh, competing at 33kg, who earned an impressive points win after a determined display and Tim Brown and Alfie Baker who delivered crowd-pleasing performances.
Oliver Plumb (13) enjoyed a skills bout in Ramsey, while Patrick James Maughan stopped his opponent in the third round of a skills bout in Leicester. He now steps up into competitive boxing.
