Hunts' bowlers suffered the agony of a one-shot defeat at the hands of Leicestershire in the regional finals of the Bowls England Balcomb Trophy, the county double rink competition.

Hunts came back strongly over the last few ends, but were just pipped at the post, 34-33, and Leicestershire then themselves lost by one shot in the final to Norfolk.

Northants managed just four points from their trip to Norwich, courtesy of rink wins for captain Dave Corney (31-20) and Phil Symonds (28-27).

Meanwhile, the Adams Trophy team slipped to the bottom of the section following their 172-155 defeat at North Essex.

They did share rink honours at three apiece, but the profit from the rink wins for captain Ray Keating (41-20), Graham Agger (30-23) and Kevin Vinter (29-26) was not enough to wipe out the deficits on the other three rinks.
