MINOR COUNTIES: Cambs crash again

Cambridgeshire's miserable Unicorns Trophy campaign came to end with another defeat against Northumberland in Jesmond yesterday (May 22).

Tim Young scored 34 for Cambs in Northumberland.

Cambs went down by 63 runs to make it three defeats and a cancellation from four one-day matches.

Northumbreland were rocking at 67-5 yesterday, but recovered to reach 224-7.

Cambs struggled from the start in reply as openers David Clarke, the Peterborough Town skipper, and Ben Bryant were dismissed for ducks and Town’s Asim Butt soon followed for 17.

From 24-3 Cambs did rally as Wisbech all-rounder James Williams (46), pro Ben Smith (34) and Town’s Tim Young (32) made useful contributions, but they were eventually dismissed for 161.

Sam Rippington of Wisbech and Town’s Lewis Bruce had earlier picked up two wickets apiece for Cambs. Town teenager David Sayer took 1-40 from eight overs.

Cambs start their Minor Counties Championship campaign with an Eastern Division match against Norfolk at Wisbech for three days from next Sunday (May 29).
