The regular Saturday Winter Qualifying Opens at Rookery Waters has seen some good weights taken by the leading anglers recently.

The latest match on the Magpie Pool saw the consistent Mark Pollard take the honours with 160lb 6oz from fancied peg 31. He caught on the left-hand side of the island on punched bread in various spots around the reeds at 16 metres.

Runner-up was Tony McGregor from peg five with 79lb and third was Tony Watling with 46lb 12oz.

Will Hadley won the Over 60s Wednesday match from peg 10 with a level 28lb.

John Belshaw came second on 25lb 8oz, then came Bob Coulson with 17lb 13oz.

TYDD GOTE

One of the top anglers fishing the fen drains this season has been John Taylor, particularly on the North Level Drain.

Last Wednesday he once again showed his class by topping the Tydd Gote match there with 8lb 6oz of small fish taken on the pole with pinkie.

In the Sunday Tydd match, Paul Bawden won with a modest 4lb 11oz of skimmers, roach and perch.

Second with 4lb 8½oz was Andy Greenwood and third Darren Williams on 13oz.
