Limetime achievement award for long-serving local tennis official

Geoff Smith has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by Cambridgeshire LTA for his contribution to tennis in the county.

Geoff had been organising tennis activity for a long time even before he reached Peterborough in the early 1980s!

From the early 80s he was heavily involved in running Peterborough City Lawn Tennis Club, holding various roles including chairman, secretary, men’s captain, groundsman and publicity officer. He organised club tournaments and LTA promotional events such as ‘Play Tennis’. Eventually Geoff project managed the sale of their ground to fund the new indoor courts at The City of Peterborough Tennis Club. Since then, he has served as secretary for the club, as well as designing the club’s newsletter.

Geoff has also helped run Huntingdon and Peterborough Tennis League with his involvement starting in 1989. During this time Geoff has served as a Committee member, publicity officer, tournament organiser and latterly secretary. The league provides competitive tennis for 19 clubs in North West Cambridgeshire.
