Gretton was promoted from the Phantoms 2 squad before the start of last season. He signed a contract that enabled him to play for both teams.

Gretton is thrilled to stay in the squad for a new season that might not start until 2021 according to a recent statement from Planet Ice, the company that hosts Phantoms games in Bretton.

“I’m buzzing like a wasp,” Gretton enthused. “I loved it last year and I knew if Slava (coach Koulikov) wanted me back, I’d be back. I’d like to thank him for the opportunity, and I can’t wait to get going again. Our fans are unreal and it’s going to be mega when we can get out there again. The team is looking great already and it’ll be great to drive the Notts car to practice and see the boys again. I can’t wait to get cracking.”

Phantoms’ coach Koulikov said: “We brought Joe in for pre-season last year to have a look at him after he signed for Phantoms 2 as I heard a lot of good things about him. And he never looked back, after injuries piled up, he can play forward and Defence and was covering injured guys, so we offered him a 2-way contract.

“He’s a really good guy, fitted in really well in the room and it was like he’d been there for a few years. Having a close dressing room has been a big part of our success. He’ll do anything and everything he can for the team and even when the roster got back to full strength after Christmas, his commitment to the club stayed the same even though he got less ice time.

“We looked at it after the season finished and I’m pleased to say Joe will be with us for next season! With the versatility he’s got, he’ll be an important guy on our roster next year.”
