HOCKEY: Stand-in Saunders steers City of Peterborough up the table

The absence of lethal strike force Tierney Augustine and Robyn Gribble couldn't stop City of Peterborough Ladies ropming to a 3-1 East Division One North win at Lincoln yesterday (January 30).

Indeed Rhianne Saunders, who played up front in place of the deadly duo, was named player-of-the-match by her team-mates.

It was Saunders who opened the scoring and, after an ijmmediate Lincoln leveller, captain Lauren Finding restored the City advantage before half-time. Finding smashed home a short corner.

City dominated the second-half thanks to a supreme team effort. They defended well and broke into attack at every opportunity.

Jess Amps made the points safe with an impressive reverse-stick strike.

The win lifted City above their victims into fifth place ahead of a home game with bottom club Letchworth next Saturday (February 6, 11.30am start).
