Hicks Karate School fighters make world championships

Fighters from Peterborough's Hicks Karate School of Excellence were out in force at the WFMC (World Fightsport & Martial Arts Championship) British Championships in Birmingham at the weekend.

Thirteen were in action and 10 of them qualified for the Manchester WFMC World Games in October by finishing in the top three.

Atlanta Hickman and Jake Peppercorn led the way with two wins apiece. Hickman took the honours in the ladies Under 55kg points and continuous while Peppercorn won the Over 70kg boys 13-17 years points and the men’s Under 80kg points.

Jazmyn Popat-Evans, Braydon Popat-Evans and Jolie Franks were also winners while six year-old Junior Crozier did well to finish third in a clss for the Under 12s.

Chief instructor Andrew Hicks said: “ I’m extremely proud of each member who took part. The competition was of a very high standard and they all had to give their all and many of them produced their best performance of the year.”

Elise Ward: 2nd girls points under 12 O45kg.

Lucy Hicks: 2nd girls points under 12 U35kg.

Junior Crozier: runner-up boys points under 12 U25kg; 3rd boys light continuous under 12 years U25kg.

Ginge Popat-Evans: runner-up boys points under 12 years U30kg.

Arron Leonard: runner-up boys points under 12 years U30kg.

Warren Bothamley: 2nd boys points under 12 years O45kg.

Jazmyn Popat-Evans: 1st girls points age 13-17 years O50kg.

Jake Peppercorn: 1st boys points age 13-17 years O75kg; 1st mens points U80kg.

Atlanta Hickman: 1st ladies points U55kg; 1st ladies light continuous U55kg.

David Cairns: 2nd mens points O90kg.

Braydon Popat-Evans: 1st boys light continuous under 12 years U35kg.
