Elton-raised golf professional Adam Pike enjoyed the biggest pay-day of his career yesterday (August 9) thanks to holing a monster putt on the final green of the Weston Homes East Herts Fourball Betterball.

Pike, a PGA trainee at Brampton Park near Huntingdon, rolled home a 30-footer for birdie to boost his spoils from both the professionals-only event and the team competition, which ran alongside it.

Pike (28) ended up tied for second against his fellow professionals. He finished on a two-under total of 140 – one shot behind former European Tour star Ray Russell.

That earned him £700 but the putt on 18 took him and 4-handicap playing partner Paul Farrance to victory in the team tournament, securing Pike a further £1,000.

Pike, who has been a professional for three years, is now up to eighth on the Order of Merit on what is his first season playing the PGA in England (East) circuit.

Next month the Thrapston-based golfer will head to the final Order of Merit event – the East Anglian Open at The Rayleigh Club – with a chance of landing a top-three spot, which would secure a place in the prestigious national PGA Play-Offs.

Pike said: “At the start of the season my goal was to get into the top-25, so I didn’t have to qualify for next year.

“This is just kind of a bonus. I will be going to Rayleigh, just trying to enjoy it. It’s nice that I’ve put myself in this position in my first year.”
