Wisbech Town manager Whaley steps down

Brett Whaley who has stepped down as manager of Wisbech Town.

Whaley, who took over at the Elgoods Stadium last summer, has stepped down after a frustrating spell in the hot seat.

Former boss Dick Creasey will take over the running of the United Counties League team for the remainder of the season.

A statement from Whaley said: “After another poor display on Saturday, I decided that I would step down at the end of the season.

“After discussions with a couple of the members of the board, I have agreed to do that with immediate effect.

“I wanted to give the club time to find a suitable replacement before the end of the season, and that search can now start straight away.

“I was very proud to be offered the job at Wisbech Town, but the season hasn’t gone as I would have hoped, and the inconsistent performances have left me extremely frustrated.

“As manager you take responsibility for results, but as a squad we have never hit the heights that our talents should have.”

Whaley added: “I know that I have made some mistakes, but the negativity and criticism towards me has been hard to take, and made a difficult job even harder.

“Hopefully now supporters can get behind the lads and finish the season on a high.

“I wish the club all the best for the future.”

The Fenmen currently sit tenth in the United Counties League standings.
