The Posh players have done their bit in helping to ensure the statue of club legend Chris Turner is unveiled on schedule on September 1.

The cost of the statue is £85k and a bucket collection among supporters at the last home match pushed the current statue fund total above £70k.

And at the end of last week the Posh squad called statue fund chairman Adi Mowles to the training ground to hand over the proceeds from a whipround held among the players.

“It’s a great gesture,” Mowles said.

Other donations received lately include from official supporters group Foreverposh and Serpentine Green who have presented their joint cheque for £1200 from the kit launch and from the Peterborough FA who gave £500.

This weekend there is an event aimed at boosting the fund further.

The Whittlesey Soul Weekender (Feb 11 & 12) at the Falcon carries free admission, but there will be a bucket collection and a raffle where proceeds will go to the statue fund.

The event runs from 2pm to midnight on the Saturday and 1-9pm on the Sunday.
