PT SPORTS AWARDS; Lifetime Achievement: Tommy Cooper finishes first, just like that!

Stephen ‘Tommy’ Cooper was the man with a dream of bringing top-level non-league football to Peterborough and he’s close to pulling it off at Peterborough Sports.

The successful city businessman was the chairman and main financial backer of Sports until recently. He was the driving force as the club started out on their journey from step 7 to their current step 3 standing.

Most importantly Cooper was the man who decided mercurial manager Jimmy Dean was the man to take charge of team affairs four years ago. It was a masterstroke by the man who has now won the PT Sports Awards Lifetime Achiever award.

Cooper said: “Genuinely surprised to get the Lifetime Achievement Award from the PT ahead of the other nominees. Huge thanks to anyone who went to the trouble of voting for me & happy to accept on behalf of everyone at places like Ortonians, Peterborough Northern Star and Peterborough Sports who who supported some of my mad ideas!”

Deeping-based Darts legend Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams and long-serving Peterborough Phantoms ice hockey star James Ferrara, who retired at the end of the season, were runners-up.
